History
Wok Racing was inspired by a lost bet, and in November 2003 the first official Wok world championship was broadcast from Winterberg, Germany. Its immediate success led to the second world championship in Innsbruck in March 2004. Participants are mainly prominent pop singers, actors and talk show hosts, but have also included professional winter sports athletes and the Jamaica Olympic team.
The third championship took place again in Winterberg in March 2005. In contrast to the previous championships, there were two runs in which all contesters participated. The times of both runs were added. As a further innovation, a qualifying round was created in which the participants had to jump from a trickski-jump to determine the starting order. The event attracted a great deal of corporate interest, with the 4-person-woksleds sponsored by Nissan, IKEA & Bravo.
